The Official Source — DBE Government Website
This is where every NSC past paper originates. The Department of Basic Education publishes all official papers and memoranda here. If a paper exists, it is on this site first.
The primary official source for all NSC papers. Papers are available for Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy going back to 2010, with separate downloads for Paper 1, Paper 2, and the official memorandum for each. Available in all official South African languages.
The site layout is basic and can be slow to navigate, but the papers are complete and authoritative. Always cross-check against this source if you are unsure whether a paper from another site is accurate.
Pro tip: The DBE site can be slow and occasionally goes down during peak exam season when thousands of students are downloading at the same time. Bookmark one of the mirror sites below as a backup, and download the papers you need well before your exam rather than the night before.
Best South African Education Websites for Maths Past Papers
These platforms host the same official DBE papers but with better navigation, faster downloads, and often additional resources like worked solutions and video explanations.
Despite the name, Stanmore covers Mathematics as well as Physical Science. This is one of the most-used past paper sites by South African matric students and teachers. Papers are organised clearly by year, and most include the official memo alongside the paper. The site also carries trial exam papers from top-performing schools and provinces — these are excellent practice that go beyond what the DBE alone provides.
Highly recommended as your first stop after the official DBE site.
A South African site specifically built for Grade 12 Maths. Beyond past papers, Maths Excellence provides worked solutions, chapter-by-chapter exercises, and exam preparation notes aligned to the CAPS curriculum. The past papers section is well organised with papers going back several years. Very useful if you want past papers alongside topic-specific practice.
Siyavula's Everything Maths platform is a full CAPS-aligned textbook available free online, with built-in practice exercises and instant feedback. While it is not primarily a past paper repository, the practice questions are structured similarly to NSC exam questions and the platform is excellent for topic-level revision before you move to full past papers. The online textbook is one of the best free resources for Grade 12 Maths in South Africa.
One of the larger South African exam paper repositories. Covers Grade 10, 11, and 12 across most subjects including Mathematics. Papers are sorted by grade and year and include both the question paper and the memo. Also carries a large collection of school-level tests and June exam papers submitted by schools across the country — useful for extra mid-year practice.
A South African student resource site with a well-maintained past paper section. Clean layout, easy to navigate, and covers multiple Grade 12 subjects. Good as a backup source if the DBE site is down or slow during peak periods.
Another reliable South African archive specifically for matric past papers. Covers both the November NSC papers and the supplementary exam papers — the supplementary papers are often overlooked but they are excellent additional practice since they test the same CAPS content.
Provincial Trial Exam Papers — Harder Than the NSC
This is where serious students separate themselves. Every province in South Africa sets its own trial exam paper in August. These papers are written by experienced teachers, are often harder than the actual NSC, and cover the full CAPS syllabus. Working through provincial trial papers before the final exam is one of the best ways to stress-test your preparation.
Stanmore hosts a large collection of provincial trial papers from Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and other provinces. These are sorted by year and province and include memos. Gauteng and Western Cape trial papers in particular are known for being rigorous and well-structured — they are considered excellent preparation for the NSC.
Which provincial papers should you prioritise? Gauteng and Western Cape trial papers are consistently regarded as the hardest and most closely aligned to the NSC exam standard. If you can score 70% or above on a Gauteng trial paper under timed conditions, you are in very good shape for the NSC. Start with those before working through others.
YouTube Channels With Full Past Paper Walkthroughs
Sometimes you do not just need the paper — you need to see how a question is solved. These YouTube channels provide full worked walkthroughs of NSC Maths papers, question by question.
One of the most-watched South African Maths YouTube channels. Kevin covers Grade 12 topics in short, focused videos that are directly aligned to the CAPS curriculum and NSC exam. Particularly useful for understanding a topic you are struggling with before attempting a past paper question on it. Covers calculus, functions, trigonometry, analytical geometry, and more.
South African Grade 12 Maths explanations aimed specifically at matric students. Clear working, step-by-step methods, and a focus on the types of questions that appear regularly in NSC papers. Good supplementary viewing especially for sequences and series and financial mathematics.
The Answer Series is a well-known South African educational publisher. Their YouTube channel carries free video lessons and worked examples for Grade 12 Maths, aligned to CAPS. Useful companion to their printed study guides which are widely available at CNA and Exclusive Books.

What to Do Once You Have the Papers
Having 10 years of past papers on your laptop means nothing if you do not use them correctly. Here is the approach that actually builds your mark:
Start by working through past papers topic by topic rather than as full papers. If you are currently studying probability and the counting principle, pull out every probability question from five different past papers and work through them one after the other. This builds focused skill in that topic far faster than attempting a full paper before you are ready.
Once you are about six weeks from your exam, shift to full timed papers. Set a timer, work under real conditions, then mark your own paper against the memorandum before reviewing every question you lost marks on — not just the ones you got completely wrong. A question where you got 2 out of 4 marks is a question where method marks were dropped, and that is fixable.
If you keep losing marks in the same topic across multiple papers, that is a signal that you need more than past paper practice — you need someone to show you where your method is breaking down. That is exactly what A-Game Academy's live Zoom lessons are designed to do. For a look at the most common errors that repeat year after year, read our post on the 10 most common mistakes in Grade 12 Maths Paper 1.
Understanding the full exam structure is also essential before you start timed papers. Read our NSC Maths exam format breakdown — Paper 1 vs Paper 2 so you know exactly what to expect and how marks are distributed across topics.
One thing most students skip: The supplementary exam papers. These are the papers written by students who failed the November exam and get a second chance in February/March. They test identical content to the November paper but in a slightly different format. Working through supplementary papers doubles your practice material without adding any new topics to learn. Find them on the DBE site and on saexams.co.za.
For a full term-by-term revision plan that shows you when to start past papers and how to build up to the final exam, read our 30-day Grade 12 Maths study guide. And if distinction is your target, our post on how to achieve 90% in Grade 12 Pure Maths covers exactly how to push into the top mark range.
Past papers show you the gaps. Live lessons close them.
